This is what I say to people with bad internet connections. Get a MiFi. We used to have satellite, the small business package. It sucked. Now we have MiFi and are able to function as regular internetees again.
So, if you live out in the sticks, consider switching over. Our satelellite ran us $200 a month. MiFi is only $40. MiFi is cute! MiFi can fit in the palm of your hand.

Yes! We love our mifi, although ours is $50 for 5GB of usage. I love being able to my laptop and my internet with me wherever I go, too.
That cheap - really? We pay $85 a month for our satellite. It's a big step up from the dial-up we had for years, but still slower than the connections all our friends have. The real bummer is if we try to watch more than a few videos thru the internet, or one very long one, we'll exceed our download allotment and get cut back to dial-up speeds for a day. Are you able to watch video and download music without exceeding your limit on the MiFi?
We have some time yet to go on our contract, but if there's something cheaper with fewer limitations out there, I'll be changing at first chance.
P.S. How's the reception during storms? Heavy rains obstruct our satellite reception.
The reception during storms is awesome! We had the same trouble with our satellite (hughes) We couldn't use the internet on cloudy days. With MiFi, we don't have this problem any more.
Also, we signed up for MiFi when they were doing UNLIMITED download, so we can watch all the movies and download as much as we want. This was key to hubby, because he's a software developer and spends all day downloading things sometimes. Unfortunately, Virgin changed their policy and now they have a restricted download package. We were grandfathered in with Unlimited, but new folks are limited.
btw: We paid $200 for our satellite, we had the small business version, and it still sucked compared to our $40 MiFi.
Oh, and J.Lea -- you reminded me that yes, you can take it where ever you go. You can take it out in the woods and use it if you want. It's a great device, hubby thinks it's going to put hughes out of business.
